History & Description
History: The village takes its name from the castle, first built in 1210 by the Knights Templar. The lands later changed hands many times, with notable owners including Sir Walter Raleigh and Richard Boyle, the first Earl of Cork. Boyle oversaw the construction of the magnificent Manor House in the 17th century, which is now the centerpiece of the Castlemartyr Resort. The original castle is a dramatic ruin.

Description: Castlemartyr is nestled amid woodlands, located on the N25 road between Midleton and Youghal. It features the imposing gates of the historic estate, beautiful parklands, lakes, and the ruins of the 13th-century castle alongside the restored 17th-century manor house (now a luxury resort).
